Question for a cryptozoologist (sp?)/mythology expert...?

I'm writing a story, and one of the characters is someone who looks human, but has the territorial nature, senses, strength, and speed of a wolf. Please, do not say werewolf, because he is not. I will not write about werewolves. Plus, he can't turn into a dog/wolf. Oh, and he has two "pack mates" who are wolves, and he can communicate with them. Is there any creature that is even vaguely similar to that (besides a werewolf)? Even if there are some minor differences, so many legends are being twisted to fit books anymore that I would still be able to use it. Thanks in advance! ^_^
