Bird's nest in a hanging basket. If I move the basket will the bird find the nest?

A bird built a nest in a hanging basket on our deck; however, the bird flies away every time we open the door. Also the nest is above my son's sandbox and I am a little worried the bird might get territorial if there are eggs in the nest. If I move the hanging basket a few feet away (off the deck) onto a shepard's hook, will the bird find the nest? I don't think there are eggs in the nest, but the bird has been in the nest all day.
